Pet of the Month

Spotty!

Our pet of the month introduces himself...

Hello! My name is Spotty. I am a very handsome black-spotted neutered male Dalmatian. I have a big black patch on the right side of my face that you can't see in my picture... makes me stand out in a crowd! I will soon be a big "man" of 7 years... but still act like a pup as most Dals my age do. I am great around kids and other dogs or cats and am very loveable and friendly. I like to be petted all the time or give me a bone to chew and I am happy. My guardian, Rob, and I live in Bonita Springs. Rob is moving to California and is sad that he will not be able to take me with him. I would like a family that will play with me. A yard to run around in would be nice, too!! I would love to be your loyal friend. I am looking for a "forever home". Could that be yours?

Update January 12th, 2004: I've been adopted! I have a big yard to run in, a pond to swim in, a new Dal brother, Slim, and a new Dal sister, Cooper!

News

Our PetFinder shelter is up and we are pleased to be a part of the PetFinder family of shelters. To help make your searching easier, we have used these guidelines for ages: BABY is 0 - 6 months, YOUNG is 6+ months to 3 years, ADULT is 3+ years to 10 years, and ELDERLY is 10+ years. If you do not find the Dal of your dreams on our Pet List, please contact us with your requirements. We may have the perfect Dal for you and just haven't gotten him or her listed yet. Enjoy your visit and come back again soon!

Who We Are

We are a private, non-profit rescue "dedicated to saving lives... one Dal at a time". We are always in need of foster homes for Dals that need a temporary home until a "forever home" can be found. And, of course we are always looking for those very special homes with lots of love and companionship.

Shadowland Dalmatian Rescue is a member of many dog transport services but especially DOTS (Dalmatian Overland Transport Service). We also help with non-Dal transports when possible. So if you find that special friend and he or she will be traveling through the Ft. Myers, FL area, chances are Shadowland will be giving a ride to your special new friend!

Adopting a friend

It is very important to us that the new owner of one of our Dals understands the requirements of living with a Dalmatian and that an adoption is a lifelong commitment. Therefore, we are providing the following links to information about Dalmatians.

If you're thinking about adopting a Dalmatian...
So, you think you want a DALMATIAN?
Seeing Spots

As a rule, we do not adopt Dalmatians to families with children under the age of five because of the activity level and size of Dalmatians. If you are interested in adopting one of our spotted sweethearts or just would like more information about Dalmatians as companions, please contact the shelter by e-mail or telephone for an application and/or informational brochure on Dalmatians.

There are three steps to adopting a Dal from us. We require a completed application with references. If the application is approved, we then require a home check. If the home check is successful, the potential adopter family (including current pets) will be invited to meet the Dal they have selected to become a part of their family. An adoption fee is required to help defray costs of vetting our adoptees. All dogs are up-to-date on shots, spayed or neutered (or will be prior to adoption), and are on heartworm and flea preventatives.

Note: Long-distance adoptions with adequate references and home check will be considered.

Come Visit Us!

Because Shadowland Dalmatian Rescue is very small, we do not have staff available to allow public viewing of Dals. Successful applicants will be invited to meet their prospective Dal at a time and place convenient to all. Directions from east or west: Conveniently located in Ft. Myers, Florida near I-75.
